The design is very nice in its simplicity and I do like it. Still, the texturing could be improved in way to have the elements blend more and fit with each other. At the moment it looks quite like different parts were stuck together but could fall apart. Also I'm not totally sure of the realism of the aging stains on the blade. I'd advice to change also the texture of the leather stripes that look like stretch straps, which isn't very medieval. Look how they did it on Skyrim models and try to reproduce it.
Regarding the very detailed part on the handle, I'd advice to simplify for they will just disappear when you compress your normal map, and no one will ever see these details ingame. Look how steel weapons are decorated and try to reproduce this, then you can set your sword to be craftable as a steel weapon :)

However the color are nice and this is one very good point, usually forgotten by texturers and causing items to stand out and break the immersion.
Sorry if the critic sounds quite negative, I think it's still better to give hints to help improving.

The thin end of the blade makes me cry. Looks like a surgeon's needle. =P

How would you see all the intricate details while playing? Looks quite good so far.

Not easily. The detail is not really visible unless you cheat with console commands to get the camera as close as possible (at least at my low resolution of 1360 x 768).

I'd be able to see it fine with my 1680x1050 monitor.
